I found a tutorial I'd been meaning to do a long time ago. I also decided that if I really want to do any art, I'll have to make time to even though I'm usually exhausted after work and kid. So I woke about 12:30 the other night and started on the bird. Still have more to do to finish him up. I couldn't find the "right" blue to use. I think the blue I've used is a little garish :(.

Your bird is just beautiful! I have a set of Prismacolors, and Faber Castell Polychromos. The Prismacolor is the really nice creamy texture the polychromos are stiff like the Prismacolor thin pencils. I just love mine. I am sure you will work it all out.
I always alert Prismacolor when a pencil does not perform to my expectations.

Your heron is gorgeous, Leona!
Oh Leona! This is beautiful!
You know, you can "mix" colored pencil by layering. But try some test swatches first.
I hope you'll do more colored pencil drawings!!
Stunning!!! What texture! I love the color, not garish at all!!!!
I tried pencils.....once....
Both the bird and the eye are beautiful! Thanks to you (and my dictionary) I've learnt a new word - garish - so I can say no, the bird's color isn't garish at all! It's great and has a nice light.
Leona - you did a fantastic job! Aren't Heron's just the coolest?! You could try toning down the blue with a slight brown or gray but definitely try it on a piece of scrap paper first...
